What You Should Know About Porcelain Crowns

A porcelain crown (also referred to as a cap) is a very effective way to repair a damaged tooth. The crown is custom-made to cover the entire surface of the affected tooth. Once the permanent crown is placed, it functions just like a natural tooth. One big advantage in porcelain crowns is that they are tooth-colored, which makes them barely noticeable. Another advantage is that porcelain crowns are very strong and will usually last for many, many years. Crowns are a good choice for teeth that cannot be repaired with regular fillings.

Patients will only need to visit our Teravista office once to get a new porcelain crown. During your visit, Dr. Hoffman will make an impression on the affected tooth and prepare it for the crown by removing any existing decay and shaping the surface of the tooth. The impression will be made to create your custom porcelain crown. With our CEREC technology, it is no longer necessary to wait for the permanent crown to be ordered. You will be fitted with your new porcelain crown during the same visit.
